When and where are meetings held?

Monthly meetings are generally held on the fourth Thursday of each month.  Some meetings are "Before Hours" at 7:30 am, some are "Lunch & Learn" at 11:30 am, and others are "After Hours" at 5:30 or 6:00 pm.  Meetings generally take place at a member's place of business.  All meetings are published in the newsletter and are listed on the Chamber Calendar.

I would like to be more active in the Chamber.  What volunteer opportunities are there for me to take part in?

We are pleased to have our members take an active role in the Chamber as this is one of the best ways to benefit from your membership.  Opportunities exist in several areas, and your efforts will always be appreciated.  If you would like to chair a committee, help with ongoing tasks or occasional tasks, or serve on the Board of Directors, please let us know your preferences.  Just call the Chamber office or any Director to let us know that you are willing to help.

How much does it cost to join the Chamber?

Here is the schedule of dues for 2007.  This represents a change from the dues of 2006 to a "fair share" basis.  Prior to this increase, dues for the chamber had not been raised in 12 years.  Dues are payable by January 31 of each year.  Dues for new members joining mid-year are prorated by quarter.

Are my dues deductible?

Please check with your Tax Advisor.

From IRS Publication 529:

Dues to Chambers of Commerce and Professional Societies

You may be able to deduct dues paid to professional organizations (such as bar associations and medical associations) and to chambers of commerce and similar organizations, if membership helps you carry out the duties of your job. Similar organizations include:

  • Boards of trade,
  • Business leagues,
  • Civic or public service organizations,
  • Real estate boards, and
  • Trade associations.

You cannot deduct dues paid to an organization if one of its main purposes is to:

  1. Conduct entertainment activities for members or their guests, or
  2. Provide members or their guests with access to entertainment facilities.

I don't have a lot of time to devote to committees.  Is this expected of me?

Most of our members are entrepreneurs and small business owners, and we recognize that it takes a lot of time to manage one's own business.  You can volunteer for only as much as you feel you can handle, or you may volunteer for nothing at all.  We hope that you will be able to  attend our meetings and events. but none of these are mandatory.

I would like my business listed in the Pamlico County Visitor's Guide.  Do I have to be a member to be listed in this?

You do not have to be a member business to be listed in the Visitor's Guide.  There is a charge for non-member businesses, however the fee for this listing is included in Chamber dues, so there is no additional cost for member businesses.
