Grantsboro, historically known as the "Crossroads of Pamlico County," also the home of the first stoplight in Pamlico County. The community was named for Mr. William Grant, a native of New York, who came as a peddler with his "pack upon his back." He remained and built a store here, and married a local girl about 1890.
Grantsboro is located along a sand ridge, plainly discernible on soil and geological maps, which extends north and south across the county and is about a mile wide.
The town was incorporated in 1998, and the town council is excited about the newly widened Highway 55 and the sale of commercial property along its northern border, which will bring new commercial growth to Grantsboro.
