Each year the Chamber solicits nominations for The Pamlico County Citizen of the Year. The purpose of this award is to recognize citizen efforts and contributions to the quality of life in Pamlico County.

The nominations are then reviewed by a Chamber committee and a Citizen of the Year is selected.  The requirements are:

  1. Must be a citizen of Pamlico County (does not need to be a member of the Chamber of Commerce);
  2. Must have made a significant contribution to the life of the community;
  3. Must have demonstrated a personal concern for the well-being of the community on a voluntary basis; and
  4. Must have performed the activity in the current year.

The recipient of this award will be honored at the Annual Meeting in December.

2011 Recipients were: Pastor Scott Fitzgerald, Bayboro Baptist Church (l) and Ross Barrow (r) were awarded Citizens of the Year for their generous volunteer efforts after Hurricane Irene. Miriam Prescott, (c), along with many other outstanding volunteers, was awarded a certificate for acts of community service.
